  • Baron & Baroness FAQ

Greetings unto the Populace of the Angels! We are honored to serve the Barony as successors to Master John and Maestra Flavia.

We very much appreciate receiving gifts and tokens from the populace, but the greatest gift you can give is the donation of your time: a stint at Gate at an Angels event, offering to provide a prize (preferably hand-made), or helping with Angels' activities at GWW. Contributions of hand-made items to be used as gifts to the Crown and the baronage of Caid will enable Us to showcase the myriad talents of this amazing Barony.

Most importantly, your personal commitment to the ideals of the Society - to show courtesy, chivalry and kindness to those around you - would mean a great deal because it is a gift to the entire Barony.

    THL Peter Cadarn

THL Peter Cadarn is the disgraced second son of a wealthy Romano-British family. Leaving Britain in 460, he served a hitch with the Roman Army, after which he wandered the Eastern portion of the Empire as a merchant and mercenary. After 25 years, he returned home to find Britain embroiled in the early Anglo-Saxon Wars. Realizing that retirement wasn't in the cards just yet, he allied himself with the Dux Bellorum Artorius and fought against the Saxon invasion at the Battle of Badon Hill in 490.

He is now semi-retired and living on the family farm in Gwynedd where he carves wood, builds furniture, spins tales for the younger tenants on his land and lays an occasional ambush for marauding Saxons to stay fit and protect his land.

Peter A. Kirsch-Korff grew up in Pasadena and worked for the Aalborg Zoo in Aalborg, Denmark as a teenager while living in Europe with his parents. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps for six years, leaving the Corps in 1986 with an honorable discharge and the rank of sergeant. He has owned and operated his own custom woodworking business for over 20 years, during which he has designed and built a multitude of high-end decks, fences, arbors, gazebos, tree houses and tree estates throughout Southern California

He joined the SCA in April 1984 as one of the original members of the Shire of Cathanar (Atlantia) located in coastal North Carolina and originally situated at the Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point. As with most fighters, the SCA came to his attention when he noticed men in armor hitting each other with sticks outside his barracks. Two short months later, in June of 1984 at Windmasters' Hill in Raleigh, North Carolina, Peter was authorized in heavy weapons. He attended several Pennsic Wars from 1984 to 1993 with members of Cathanar where he enjoyed fighting with his band of brothers.

On the gentler side, Peter enjoys woodcarving and fine woodworking in general and is passing his enthusiasm for these arts on to others by teaching workshops. He has also taught classes in History and Construction of Japanese Armor for Collegium Caidis. He is also a Brewing Judge in training with the Kingdom Brewer's Guild.

    Gabrielle Nicole Devereaux nicChlurain

Gabrielle Nicole Devereaux nicChlurain was born outside Glasgow, Scotland to Catriona nicChlurain and a charming young man from the French court. Unfortunately, the charming young man's father refused to allow him to bring his family home so his mother enlisted her family's help to rescue (kidnap, actually) his daughter and bring her to the French court to be brought up as a proper young lady.

After several years trying to locate her daughter, Catriona and her brother Edgardt discovered her location. At the age of 11, Gabrielle was "rescued" from the French court by Uncle Edgardt and his men and brought back home to Scotland. By this time, Catriona had moved the rest of her large family home to the Midlothian region of Edinburgh. Happy to be reunited with her mother, Gabrielle learned the fine art of running the family estate, and gained an appreciation and understanding of nature that included the healing arts. In return, she shared what she had learned in the French court, especially her love of fine needlework. Upon her mother's death, Gabrielle inherited the family home much to the chagrin of her three brothers, and thus began a family feud that lasted for many years.

Marian Wahlquist has worked in the legal field for more than 35 years. She holds a paralegal certificate and is a Notary Public. She is currently the Lead Legal Assistant for a civil litigation law firm in downtown Los Angeles and their outlying offices. Additionally, over the last 20 years, she worked with both the Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts of America. She has received several awards for service to scouting including the San Gabriel Valley District Recognition Award twice. Marian has also been active in Job's Daughters, a Masonic organization for young girls ages 11-20. She is the proud mother of three beautiful children: Lady Mairghread nicChlurain, Lord Bjorn Zenthffeer and Alexander Wardlye, and the mother-in-law of Lady Roísin ni Brian.

Marian attended her first SCA event in March 1974, a demo in Westminster, California followed by a meeting with some people in the area who were planning a big tournament that became known the Tourney of Union (when Calafia, Angels, Isles and Dreiburgen became the Principality of Caid.) From her first event to the present time (with a few years off to raise her family), she has always been an active member of the Barony of the Angels. She was the founding seneschal of the Canton of Lyonesse which became the Barony of Lyondemere, and was also a founding member of the Canton of the Canyons.
