Baron & Baroness FAQ
Background:
Once upon a time, a Welsh trader named Master John ap Griffin packed up
his best wool clip and headed for the fabled city of Novgorod. Along the
way, he took up with a band of Rus who were on their way to Constantinople
(when you're heading that far East, might as well keep going) The merchanting
was profitable and the scenery exciting, so he never quite made it back to
Wales. He journeyed throughout Europe and the Great Silk Road, trading
whatever came to hand until one day

John Griffin Trimble
was working for a large cordage company when he first joined the SCA with
his wife Bjo in the early 1970s. He subsequently worked for Gallup Poll
and is now a semi-retired part-time employee of a health food and vitamin
company as well as the Fulfillment Department of Griffin Dyeworks & Fiber
Arts. Although he has served twice on the SCA Board of Directors, John is
a generally quiet man who loves reading, sharing a good laugh and talking
to creative people. Over the years, he has taught several Ithra and Collegium
classes in SCA history. A Master of the Pelican and long-time herald, he is
planning on taking up archery in support of the burgeoning Angels Archery
Corps. He has always encouraged SCA activities whether or not they are one
of his passions. His favorite colors are rich earth tones, mossy greens
and pretty much any shade of blue. Anything to do with griffins will get
his attention almost immediately.
SCA Offices held:
El Munadi Herald
Seraph Pursuivant Herald
Board of Directors, 1978-1981 and 1986-1989
Newsletter editor, 20th year & 25th year SCA Anniversaries
Care and feeding:
John likes pretty much all kinds of food, especially spicy dishes,
although he is very mindful to avoid salt and fats. He cannot eat
walnuts, cooked or raw bell peppers or raw onions and is NOT fond
of organ meats. He does not drink strong alcohol or coffee but loves
a brisk black or green tea or a tasty herbal tea without sugar or cream.
He has a decided weakness for Golden Splonders (chocolate chip cookies,
without nuts please), ice cream, dark chocolate, good strong cheese and
dark home-brewed beer, as well as fresh fruit & veggie snacks.

Maestra
Flavia Beatrice Carmigniani is a Genoese merchant baroness who
traveled with her uncle to the great trade markets of the Middle East.
Since businesswomen are accepted in her part of the world, she started
her own dye trade, gathering all sorts of fabric and dyeing materials
from Aleppo to Genoa. It was, of course inevitable that she would one
day cross paths with a handsome Welsh merchant. Their mutual love of
merchanting, travel and each other has led to a thriving business and
wonderful marriage of many years. They maintain two homes, one in Genoa
and one in Constantinople. They have two daughters: Lady Kathryn du
Griffin, who is a talented graphic artist, and Viscountess Lorissa du
Griffin, who has the distinction of being the SCA's younger monarch as
a 10-year-old Princess of Caid. She is currently Seneschal of Altavia.
Bjo Trimble
began her career in freelance art and writing with publication in
several magazines and books and has two published books to her name.
A Mistress of the Pelican and the Laurel, her major SCA love is
teaching, and she finds as much enjoyment in showing someone how to
make a T-tunic as in teaching an entire class how to illuminate
scrolls with period pigments. She is a dyer of both natural and
commercially-produced dyes, and general manager of Griffin Dye Works.
Her favorite colors are deep reds and purples, and like Master John,
earth tones and any shade of blue. She likes, but does not collect, certain artistic themes: tailed butterflies, nautilus shells, moon jellies,
hummingbirds, dandelions, clouds, and of course, unicorns.
SCA Offices held:

Chirurgeon, Principality of Caid
Founder and Chancellor, Collegium Caidis
Founding Editor, Crown Prints
A&S Officer, Angels
Deputy A&S Officer, Angels
Merchant Autocrat, 20th year & 25th year SCA Anniversaries
Care and feeding:
Flavia matches John both on her enjoyment of good spicy dishes and her
avoidance of salt, fats, walnuts and bell peppers. She enjoys a good
cup of coffee with a dash of soy milk cream, or a brisk black tea or
herbal tea without sugar or cream. A little home-brewed alcohol is
nice but strong alcohol is not. Fresh fruit and vegetable nibbles are
favorites, as well as cashews and pecans. Anything caramel or coconut
is a delight.
