Office of the Chronicler
Over 30 years ago, two enterprising SCA members created a newsletter for the Principality of Caid. Because they believed that any project benefits from being fun and having lots of volunteers to help, they turned their multi-story home into a publishing facility. The typist-writers worked upstairs (with an auxiliary facility in the rental house next door), the people running the print machines worked in the basement, and a cadre of workers sat in the large living room, ready to collate, staple, label, sort and bag the publication (and enjoy wonderful spaghetti dinners!)
The newsletter, dubbed The Crown Prints, was innovative in the SCA because it was an 8-1/2 x ll book with more than information about the current regnum and upcoming events -- it had chronicles of events, how-to articles, and lots of additional material. The newsletter eventually included photos (including the first color photo on the cover) and card stock covers with original art themed to seasons and holidays. The Chronicler's baton has been passed more than seven times since the initial issue and each officer has added something unique while maintaining the original vision.
Although the Barony's monthly newsletter, The Seraph, is basically an electronic publication, its format and style was specifally designed to honor the first Chroniclers of Caid who happen to be our very own Baron John ap Griffin and Baroness Flavia Beatrice Carmigniani! The Seraph is available gratis either by visiting http://www.sca-angels.org/seraph.php
