Baronial eList
The Angels Baronial eList is an email list for members of the Barony of the Angels and friends who wish to stay in touch with various happenings in the Barony. At the request of the SCA Board of Directors, we have switched to a new elist hosted by the Kingdom of Caid server. Unlike elists on public sites like Yahoo, to access the archives and receive emails, you must be a subscriber to the list.
As with all elists, we ask that you observe traditional courtesy, netiquette, and cooperation when posting to the list. Obscenity, flaming, and spamming will not be tolerated. Please keep conversations on topic for matters directly concerning the Barony and Kingdom, and adjust subject lines as needed to reflect "OT" for off-topic. Please be aware that this is a VERY active list.
How do I subscribe to the new elist?
You can subscribe and manage your account by going to http://crier.caid-commons.org/options.cgi/angels-caid-commons.org/. This includes switching from individual emails to Digest Mode, requesting your password, or (we hope not!) unsubscribing.
How do I post to the new elist?
Once you are subscribed, send your emails to:
How do I view the archives?
You can do so with your password by going to http://crier.caid-commons.org/private.cgi/angels-caid-commons.org/.
What if I forget my password?
You can manage your account by going to http://crier.caid-commons.org/options.cgi/angels-caid-commons.org/. There is a link at the bottom of the page to request your password.
My emails seem to have a string of [Barony of the Angels] tags. What is that and what can I do about it?
Some email providers (most notably gmail) attach a tag every time a subscriber posts. To help reduce the proliferation of these tags, go to the Subject line and trim the excess tags. Your fellow posters will thank you!
I switched to digest mode but I still seem to get a lot of emails.
If your email option is set to digest, please remember that those who have individual emails might be having an exchange back and forth that will answer a question you posted, but you won't see it until your digest arrives.
What are the differences in the Plain Digest mode and MIME Digest Mode?
Plain Digest mode is just that.....the digests are sent in plain text. If you choose MIME Digest mode, the emails are organized with links to the organized emails at the top for easier access.
Why do we have to do this?
The SCA Board of Directors has asked every group in the SCA with an elist to re-establish their elist on their respective Kingdom servers. There have been issues in the past with the security of Yahoo groups as well as issues arising from a single member "owning" the group and restricting access.
Will I still be able to communicate on the old yahoogroup?
The old list will still be available for archive purposes, but will not accept new posts after March 31, 2009.
Will I still be able to get The Seraph on the AngelsSeraph yahoogoup?
Yes. That is a non-post list. Think of it as a library were you go to get new issues and read old ones.
Are there any ISPs like AOL that have trouble with the new elist format?
Occasionally, there has been issues with AOL. If you have a problem, please contact the .
Who can post to the new elist?
Only subscribed members of the list will be able to post. If you try to post without being subscribed, your post will have to be approved manually and may be delayed in delivery.
The subscriber interface is pretty plain. Are you doing to do anything to spruce it up?
The interface is standard for GNU Mailman and cannot be modified.
What will the new emails look like?
They will look exactly like they did when we were using the Yahoogroup. Your email program determines the appearance.
Is the new elist moderated?
Emails over 40 kb will require approval; otherwise, we rely on the good manners and common sense of our subscribers. Please be sure to trim your messages before replying, especially on long threads. If you are changing the subject on a thread, please indicate that in the subject line.
Who are the new list owners?
The list owner is the Kingdom of Caid. The moderators are the Barony of the Angels Webstaff.
What happens if the Kingdom server goes down?
The same thing that happens if any other service goes down - there will be a temporary delay in getting your emails. If you want to check the status of the Kingdom server, go to http://caidstatus.org/.
Who should I contact if I have a problem?
Please contact the .
Thank you for your support and patience!
