recreation. One-on-one tournament-style Heavy Fighting competition
is how our Kings and Queens are selected. SCA combat is a serious
martial art. There are several types of fighting competition:
- Heavy Fighting - involving metal or leather armor and rattan
sticks (instead of steel swords).
- Rapier (Fencing) using epees and
schlagers.
Marshals are the referees in charge of safety,
training and supervision of SCA combat. The Angels' Marshal is
.
The Captain of Rapier for Angels is . Captain of Rapier is responsible for instruction of the art of Rapier fighting as well as holding practices for the Barony.
Angels Fighter Practice is at Recreation Park, on Tuesday evenings. Early birds arrive around 7:45pm and Practice officially starts at 8pm. Both Heavy Weapons and Rapier are taught and practiced here.
This is the same park that we use for Sunday Picnic in the Park, but a different area. At the west end of the park there is a large u-shaped driveway where we meet.
For those who are not familiar with the park, take the 210 Fwy to Monrovia and exit on Mountain. Go north to Lemon, which is the street just past the YMCA. Turn left on Lemon. The park will be on your left. To get to the driveway, turn left on Shamrock and watch for the driveway.
Picnic in the Park is at Monrovia Recreational Park at 1pm.
Heavy Weapons Fighting takes place here as well.
Directions: From the 210 Freeway exit Mountain Avenue
in Monrovia and go north (heading west make a right, heading east
make a left.) Follow Mountain Ave north till you come to Lemon Ave
and make a left. You will pass the YMCA on your left and PitP is
directly past that on your left.
