Armed combat is an important part of SCA medieval
recreation. One-on-one tournament-style Heavy Fighting competition
is how our Kings and Queens are selected. SCA combat is a serious
martial art. There are several types of fighting competition:
- Heavy Fighting - involving metal or leather armor and rattan
sticks (instead of steel swords).
- Rapier (Fencing) using epees and
schlagers.
Marshals are the referees in charge of safety,
training and supervision of SCA combat. The Angels' Marshal is
THL Tomaso da Barbiano.
The Captain of Rapier for Angels is Lord Faelen MacCaerbhaill. Captain of Rapier is responsible for instruction of the art of Rapier fighting as well as holding practices for the Barony.
Angels Fighter Practice is in Arcadia Park, on Tuesday evenings. Early birds arrive around 7:45pm and Practice officially starts at 8pm. Both Heavy Weapons and Rapier are taught and practiced here.
Directions:The park is on the corner of
Huntington Drive and Santa Anita blvd. in Arcadia. Take the 210
to Arcadia, east of Pasadena, and get off the freeway at the Santa
Anita blvd offramp. Take Santa Anita blvd. South to Huntington
Drive and turn right. Huntington Drive divides into two one-way
streets, with Arcadia City Hall and Police Department on the island
so created. Take a left on the first street after Arcadia City
Hall and then another left back onto Huntington Drive . The entrance
to the northwest corner of the park is on the right hand side
of the street. It can be a bit tricky getting into the parking
lot the first time. (Directions under Revision)
Picnic in the Park is at Monrovia Recreational Park at 1pm.
Heavy Weapons Fighting takes place here as well.

in Monrovia and go north (heading west make a right, heading east
